Kenyan international Joash Onyango has switched camps in Tanzania after penning a deal with Singida Fountain Gate FC.
The hard-tackling central defender joined the club on a year-long deal ending his relationship with former Tanzanian champions Simba that was reportedly sour in the past campaign despite extending his contract with the club last year.
Reports of the burly defender running out of favour at Simba first emerged in late last year with sources indicating that, he wanted out.
He had back then, fallen down the pecking order as coach Zoran Maki preferred to play Henock Inonga and Mohamed Outtara at the heart of the defence.
The limited game time coming his way coupled by the reported interest from Mbeya City saw the Kenyan defender seek to terminate his contract with Simba.
However, his request to terminate his contract at a time when the season was running and consequently and bolt out of Simba was thrown out by the Tanzania Football Federation Player's Status and Legal Committee.
Simba bosses are understood to have intervened and helped iron out the differences and as a result, the former Western Stima man, began getting playing time.
The latest development ends the speculation milling around the player’s future in Tanzania and Simba to be precise as he was earlier reported to have fallen out with the management of the club.
Onyango crossed the border in August 2020 when Simba wrestled him from the hands of record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia.
The experienced defender had a hugely successful stint with Simba in his first two years at the club as he won a couple of titles and played a massive role in the club’s superb performance in continental football.
The success he inspired Wekundu wa Msimbazi to in his first two years at the club saw him become a fan-favourite as well as caught the attention of African giants among them is Orlando Pirates.
Besides that, he scooped individual awards and got nominated to the CAF teams of the week for his performance in the inter-club tournaments.
Joash will meet familiar faces at Singida in Pascal Wawa, Said Ndemla and Meddie Kagere. He worked with the trio at Simba.
