Columbian forward part ways with Everton and, allegedly, joins Al-Rayyan in a lucrative deal

While in his prime, he was not good. He was magnificent. Too bad it didn't last for long.

Once the world's most promising winger, James Rodriguez leaves Everton and continues his career path in the Middle East, where he'll allegedly join Qatar side Al-Rayyan.

The 30-year-old baby-face Columbian was having a bumpy ride with Toffees, showing no signs of devotion with Rafa Benitez' side. With that said, it's no wonder he was looking for a new club, but his choice seems like more than a genuine move - it goes to show he's not interested in playing on a top-level anymore.

The name of Al-Rayyan coach Laurent Blanc sounds promising, but - let's be honest - it will be not challenging like playing in the English Premier League, La Liga or Ligue 1, where James used to demonstrate his outstanding skills.

The moment when his career, unexpectedly, went down was the day he signed for Real Madrid. Six years with Los Blancos, with two of them spent on loan at Allianz Arena, weren't helpful for the South American, who used to shine every now and then, but the lack of consistency prevented him from becoming a top player.

The left-footed offensive midfielder came to Goodison Park to join his former Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, but as soon as the Italian left the city of Liverpool, Rodriguez felt like stranded on a shore.

He seemed confused and not very keen on engaging on the pitch, which backfired him among the Everton fans, who felt he should not be given another chance.

Too bad, for a while, he seemed like a true Carlos Valderama's successor, with a chance of putting his name on the list of the all-time greats, but perseverance was not the word he had had in his vocabulary.
