He netted a brace in the semi-final clash against Sharks

Nairobi City Stars forward Vincent 'Jamaica' Otieno is beaming with confidence following his brace against Kariobangi Sharks in the semi-final of the Elite pre-season Cup tournament on Thursday.

The striker struck twice in quick succession for Simba wa Nairobi to give them a lead in the first half, being set up by new signing Samuel Kapeni in both instances, but they crumbled in the second period to draw 2-2 at full time. However, they redeemed themselves from the spot as they beat Sharks in post-match penalties.

After the successive brace, the towering forward is now having his eyes on scoring his first hat-trick for City Stars especially now that he is enjoying playing in his preferred position.

“First, God is always on the forefront of everything. I am happy about the brace. My eyes are now trained on my first hat trick for the club that I love so much. It has been my family for a while now. I am happy that now I am playing in my natural position as a striker. It is very competitive but I am ready to beat the competition and I want to push the club to greater heights. Nothing is impossible and I believe God is with me, and the young team that we have as a whole,” Jamaica said.

Otieno had gone for ten months without scoring for City Stars, his last and one being in the 4-0 win over Vihiga Bullets at Ruaraka grounds on his top-flight debut.

His tactician, Nicholas Muyoti lauded the forward's showing as a point, remaining hopeful that he can continue with the same going forward.

“He had very good movements as well as positioning as a point-man. I am happy that it is now resulting in goals. He was very good and I hope he can continue like this,” Muyoti said.
