The Turin giant is one step closer to the Champions League with this win
Juventus FC can see the UEFA Champions League again—and they can largely thank Jeremie Boga for it. Not him alone, but more than anyone else, as the winger from Ivory Coast has delivered two crucial wins over the past month. This latest one was especially important, as the Turin side defeated Atalanta BC 1–0 in one of the key clashes of Serie A’s 32nd round, against a direct rival for fourth place. Boga arrived at Juventus late in the January transfer window as a backup solution. The club had spent all of January trying to strengthen their attack, but after failing to sign Randal Kolo Muani and Jean-Philippe Mateta, they turned on February 1st to the winger from OGC Nice, who was eager to leave the French Riviera. Juventus offered him a way out—and now he’s repaying them.
🗣️ Jeremie Boga: “I couldn't have dreamed of a better start. Today was a very difficult game, we fought even with the example of the captain, who showed us the way, and we are very happy for today, because they are three very important points"

Since making his league debut on February 8, Boga has scored four goals. Only the in-form Donyell Malen has scored more in Serie A over the same period. Boga found the net in a 3–3 draw with AS Roma, sealed a 4–0 win over Pisa SC, and brought victories away to Udinese Calcio and now in Bergamo against Atalanta. The decisive moment came just after halftime. Boga capitalized on a breakdown in communication within Atalanta’s defense. It started with Berat Djimsiti, who misjudged a clearance from a cross by Emil Holm, confusing both goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi and defender Giorgio Scalvini. The ball deflected kindly to Boga, who reacted quickest and slotted it home—likely convincing Juventus to activate the €5 million buy option in his contract.
He may not be a natural center-forward for a club like Juventus, but as a rotation option he has proven very valuable. While Jonathan David and Loïs Openda failed to deliver, and Dušan Vlahović was unavailable due to injury, Boga stepped up and kept Juventus firmly in the race for Champions League qualification. Juventus weathered the early storm from Atalanta and, while not particularly dangerous themselves, made the most of their mistake. The home side’s best chance came in the 57th minute, when Djimsiti nearly redeemed himself after a setup by Charles De Ketelaere, but Michele Di Gregorio made a brilliant save. Late in the game, there were penalty appeals when Giacomo Raspadori sent the ball into the box and it struck Federico Gatti on the arm, but referee Fabio Maresca judged it to be in a natural position, and VAR did not intervene. Atalanta suffered their first home Serie A defeat since losing 1–0 to Inter back in December. After this loss, it seems increasingly likely they will miss out on next season’s Champions League, as Juventus now sit seven points clear with six rounds remaining.
