It's happened! Bayern lose in Bundesliga

Augsburg made a massive upset beating the subpar Bavarians in Munich 2-1, handing them first league defeat in the season

Bayern may have left the impression that no Bundesliga rival can touch them. After all, their record of 16 wins and two draws demonstrates it. However, whenever they enter the clash without their heads in the game, without inspiration, and a genuine desire to triumph, there's no doubt they'd be punished.

Today was one of their poor days. Harry Kane, Luis Diaz, Michael Olise, and the rest of the usual heroes at Allianz Arena were subpar, and Augsburg seized a chance that only rare teams get - to win in Munich.

In April 2014, they broke Bayern's longest-ever Bundesliga winning streak of 53 games. Today, they broke the Bavarians' second-ever victorious league run of 27 matches, beating the favourites 2-1!

Every team, including Vincent Kompany's crew, has a bad day once in a while, and Bayern's crushing form might have spoiled us a bit, as we now expect fireworks game after game.

This afternoon in Munich, the Bavarians showed a different face. The one that struggles and seems lackluster. And the rivals felt it and seized the chance that often comes.

Although the home team was in the lead at the break thanks to Hiroki Ito's opener, Augsburg were by no means a subordinate rival. On the contrary, in the added time of the first period, Robin Fellhauer hit the bar, but that was only the introduction to the visitors' dominance - yeah, you read it right, dominance - in the second half.

While Bayern were waiting for the rivals' mistake, Manuel Baum's men courageously went for a leveller. And not only a leveller, but a winner as well.

After tormenting the Bavarians' custodian Jonas Urbig for half an hour after the break, the young German made a mistake that led to Arthur Chaves' header and the equalizer.

Kompany subbed on Joshua Kimmich, Jamal Musiala, and Nicolas Jackson, but instead of improving, the Bavarians kept sinking, and the punishment came six minutes after Augsburg's first goal.

A simple attack over the left flank, Dimitrios Giannoulis' low cross, and Han-Noah Massengo's ruthless finish completely turned the tables, making it 2-1 for the visitors! Olise did hit the bar in stoppage time and was close to salvaging a draw for the home crew, but when you don't respect the game and don't give your best, luck won't be on your side.

This defeat won't affect Bayern's dominating Bundesliga position, but it's a good message for Kompany and his men that no team is unbeatable. It could serve them well and remind them to stay humble. That's how trophies are won.
