Ill-fated Fofana may miss the entire season

Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 04.01.25. | 10:59

Ever since he joined Chelsea, the Frenchman has participated in only 25% of all the games he could have played

Even though many mocked Chelsea for having plenty of players in the squad, Enzo Maresca managed to organize his crew by sending numerous players on loan. In addition, the Italian selected a core consisting of those he needed in the Premier League while the others awaited their chances in the UEFA Conference League against the European minnows.

However, Chelsea boss could be forced to change things up in the upcoming period, as his side has serious problems with injured defenders. After "forever sidelined" captain Reece James and Benoit Badiashile, the Blues will be deprived of Wesley Fofana's help - perhaps even until the end of the season.

The latest hamstring injury was the fourth time the unfortunate Frenchman has been sidelined since he joined Chelsea from Leicester in August 2022. He's missed a number of games since, but the precise data is quite mind-blowing - Fofana has made only 32 appearances with the London side out of 125 he could have! That means that he played only a bit more than 25% of all the possible matches...

The recent "injury outbreak" among centre-backs left Maresca with little alternatives. Levi Colwill will undoubtedly take his place in the XI today against Crystal Palace (18.00), while his partner could be either Tosin Adarabioyo or Axel Disasi.

The 44-year-old tactician can also count on the young Renato Veiga and Josh Acheampong, though it's hard to expect that either will get the chance since neither has played a single Premier League match this season.
