Allan Saint-Maximin is close to joining Al Ahli in a move that could open a space for them to continue their Harvey Barnes pursuit

Newcastle United are hoping to sell Allan Saint-Maximin to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli to fund their pursuit of Harvey Barnes, talkSPORT reports on Sunday.

As Mozzart Sport Kenya reported earlier, the Magpies boss Eddie Howe is keen to sign £35million-rated Barnes from Leicester, but expects strong competition from West Ham.

For Newcastle, owned by the Saudi PIF (Public Investment Fund), it has been a relatively quiet transfer window so far.

The only signing has been Sandro Tonali from AC Milan and manager Eddie Howe has admitted frustrations with how the window has gone.

Saint-Maximin, on the other hand, has hinted at his possible exit on social media recently.

He has played in 25 of the 26 Premier League matches when he has been available, but only 12 of them in Howe's starting eleven, coming off the bench 13 times in his 14 occasions when named among the substitutes.
