Former Newcastle captain has doubts about Arteta's future with the Gunners

They have been on this path a couple times before. The core of Arsenal‘s team knows what it‘s like to be the leader of the Premier League only to see Manchester City taking the title away in the crucial months, months which are ahead just now. And after a shocking 2-2 draw with last placed Wolverhampton in mid week, the Gunners are stil five points away from the Citizens, but with one game less. When City play their game, the difference could be only two points. Former captain Thierry Henry already spoke about a ‘fear of winning‘ but Alan Shearer is now raising doubts about Mikel Arteta.

Former Newcastle captain talked about the possibility of now winning the title and what could it mean for Arsenal‘s coach.

If he doesn’t win the league he might not be at Arsenal. After the chances they have had to win it and they have been second. With what they have spent on the players they have got at the positions they are in, they have to win it. Mentally maybe the Champions League would be an easier barrier to get over to win that, rather than then Premier League because of what has happened to them in the Premier League“ he said at the ‘The Rest Is Football podcast‘.

Ultimately, Shearer still believes that the Gunners will finally win the Premier League.

They’ll probably still win it, just. I think if you need a game after what has happened then it is not a bad one to have in your local rivals. I know they have a new manager and it is away, but what a response it would be to go and win at Tottenham at the weekend. I never expected Arsenal to do it the easy way, I always knew there was going to be bumps and everything else, nervy times. People are going to be chucking questions and bombs and you have to get over that. I did expect this to happen. Let’s see what they are made of“ he said.
