Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohamed has responded to growing speculation surrounding the alleged removal of Vice President McDonald Mariga from office, urging the public to ignore unverified reports circulating online.
On Tuesday morning, multiple social media reports, including those shared by renowned Kenyan sports journalists, suggested that Mariga had been discreetly ousted from his position as FKF Vice President.

The reports appeared to indicate that Abdallah Yusuf, a co-opted member in the FKF Executive Committee, and a close ally of Hussein, had replaced Mariga.
However, Hussein rubbished the reports emphasizing that no such decision had been made and reiterated that the federation remains bound by its constitution.
"Kindly disregard misinformation circulating on social media. FKF is an institution guided by its constitution, which we strictly adhere to. Our focus remains on delivering a successful CHAN 2024 and raising the standards of Kenyan football," posted Hussein on his social media channels.
According to Article 41 of the FKF Constitution, the removal of an elected official is a process subject to clear legal protocols.
A dismissal must be proposed either by the National Executive Committee (NEC) or at least one-third of FKF members.
The NEC is then required to vote on the motion, and a two-thirds majority is necessary for the removal to pass.
Furthermore, the individual facing dismissal reserves the right to defend themselves before any final decision is made.
The unfolding drama comes just two weeks before Kenya is set to host the eighth edition of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) from 2 to 30 August, a major milestone in the country's football calendar.
Hussein and Mariga were elected on 7 December 2024, garnering 67 votes in a decisive runoff.
