He was only one of four Simba wa Nairobi players to have clocked over 2,000 minutes last season.
Advice from Sven Yidah and a meeting to one self.
That’s all it took Nairobi City Stars fullback-turned-centerback Edwin Buliba to take a massive leap from his 2021-22 season to hitting milestones in his fifth season at the club.
Primarily deployed as a right back, Buliba in the 2021-22 season clocked a total of 766 minutes in a meager nine games, forcing him to take a deep look at himself, all in search of more regular minutes and being a dependable piece in the team.
“After that (2021-22) season I called myself to a meeting for a review after searching for answers,” Buliba told the club media on Friday 15 September. “The outcome was very positive as I realized where I had been going wrong.
“It dawned on me that I wasn’t investing in myself at all. I wasn’t eating well and right, and was not doing anything extra to improve my conditioning which left me on the injury list time and again.”
As per Buliba, he ended up hitting the gym for guided training and improved his body conditioning.
That was in addition to the advice of former Nairobi City Stars player Sven Yidah.
“That combination made me a much better player and it explains why I had an injury-free season,” he added.
His season on stats stood at 2,051 regular time minutes and clocked a record 23 games last term, albeit missing a game due to suspension.
He was only one of four Simba wa Nairobi players to have clocked over 2,000 minutes last season.
He registered three assists, and one second assist.
