Havertz finally scores, but for Germany as a left-back!

Maybe Mikel Arteta should consider switching the German international to defense

When Arsenal fans looked at the scoreboard of the Germany – Turkey friendly game, they couldn’t believe their own eyes: Under the ‘scorers’ column he was there - Kai Havertz. Former Chelsea midfielder, who signed for Arsenal this summer in a 65 million pounds transfer has not yet found his form. In fact, he participated in 19 Arsenal games so far, but scored only once, against Bournemouth from penalty spot. Even the other aspects of his game, like assists for example are missing, and even Arsenal fans are getting tired of their new signing. And now, all of a sudden, he scores for Germany after only five minutes. The Mannschaft ended up losing that game 3-2, but one thing was even more interesting than Havertz’s goal. It was his position.

In Julian Nagelsmann’s new formation 4-2-2-2, former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder played as – left back! Gundogan and Kimmich were in charge of midfield, while Havertz was at the back, and according to the German coach, he did it voluntary and it will not be his last time.

I don't see this as a risk for him, but as a very, very big opportunity to play a key role at the Euros. Kai said he wanted to do it, wanted to try it — for a first time in an unfamiliar position, he did extremely well” he said to SkyDE.

During the game, Havertz was seen alongside Gundogan and Kimmich while Germany had the possession, but dropped back to the left back spot when the hosts lost the ball. In Arsenal, he plays in midfield and as a winger, and we know he can sometimes play as a false nine, but so far Mikel Arteta didn’t even thought about putting the German on the left defensive spot. He may think twice now...
