The new announcement will however not affect the tournament format, which will play out on round-robins

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has announced a further change to the upcoming CECAFA Four Nations Tournament set to run from Monday, 21 to Sunday, 27 July, at the Karatu Stadium in Arusha, Tanzania.

The regional football governing body on Thursday, 17 July, announced that Congo Brazzaville will no longer take part in the competition, with their replacements being Senegal.

“We are happy to announce that Senegal have accepted to take part in the Tournament after Congo Brazzaville communicated that they had encountered some logistical challenges and could not make the trip as earlier planned,” Auka Gecheo, CECAFA Executive Director, said.

The shake-up comes a day after Congo Brazzaville replaced Sudan as the tournament's guest team, with the latter opting out to “focus on its domestic league, which recently kicked off.”

The latest communication, however, does not alter the format for the tournament, which will adopt a round-robin structure, where each team will play three matches.

The team with the highest points at the end will be declared the winner.

Also not affected is the fixture list for Kenya’s Harambee Stars, who will still open their tournament against neighbouring Uganda Cranes on Monday, 21 July, before facing Tanzania and now Senegal on Thursday, 24 and Sunday, 27 July, respectively.

The tournament is being viewed as a crucial warm-up for next month’s 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN), replacing the previously proposed CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup.
