Striker, Moses Shumah, downplayed his record-equalling achievement in the Zambian Super League after guiding Power Dynamos to a crucial Kitwe derby win, insisting his focus remains on improvement and helping the team succeed.
The forward became the first player since 2018 to score at least 18 goals in the competition, matching a feat last achieved by Idriss Mbombo.

When asked about the milestone, Shumah admitted he was unaware of Mbombo’s record, emphasizing that his focus remains on the bigger picture.
“I didn’t know about the record, but I feel good,” Shumah said in an interview with Bola News. “I aimed to beat my last season’s tally of 17 goals. This shows I’m improving as an individual, and when you score like this, it means you are pushing your team somewhere better.”
Shumah’s 18th goal proved decisive at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, where close to 30,000 fans witnessed a fiercely contested derby last Sunday.
The first half saw end-to-end action, with both sides creating chances but failing to break the deadlock.
Nkana came close late on, with Mbombo’s powerful header rattling the woodwork in the 80th minute.
Power Dynamos stepped up after the break, launching quick counterattacks, and in the 52nd minute, Shumah made the difference after being set up by Ronel Manyanga.
The win saw Dynamos tighten their grip at the top of the table with 58 points from 26 matches, seven points clear with two games in hand as they push to defend their title.
Nkana, meanwhile, remain 12th with 31 points and are now winless in their last five matches.
Despite the result, Nkana assistant coach Josphat Nkhoma felt his side deserved more.
“It’s the name of the game. We’ve lost, but the better team lost today,” he said. “We started well and wanted a killer punch in the first 15 minutes, but we missed clear chances. I think we controlled most of the game, but we couldn’t take our chances.”
Power Dynamos head coach Oswald Mutapa, however, was focused on the bigger picture.
“For me, forget about the derby; it’s the three points that matter. We needed to consolidate our position at the top, and that’s what we’ve done,” he said.
