The promise was made to the players following their impressive performance in the tournament, where they reached the quarter-finals.

In his promise, the head of state pledged that the government will pay a deposit of Ksh1 million for a two-bedroom Affordable Housing Program (AHP) unit at a location of their choice, with the players expected to top up the balance from the over Ksh5 million in bonuses that they received.

While the process of acquiring the apartments has been relatively slow, a section of the players and members of the technical bench, led by the tournament's captain, Abud Omar, and team manager Nick Kimanthi, visited the AHP units in Starehe, where the majority of players settled on as their location of choice.

“I want to thank the President as well as the federation's leadership for always supporting us and following up.

The President supported us immensely, and the players are happy that he changed our lives.

We are happy to have talked to the relevant persons for this project, and all of us are ready to pay the required deposit,” said Omar during the visit.

The Kenya Police FC defender sent reassurances to the President of the squad's readiness to complete the acquisition.

“We understand the President is a busy man, but we would wish to remind him that we are all ready now.”

His sentiments were shared by Kimanthi, who expressed the squad's satisfaction with the Starehe units.

“We have talked to almost all the players, and they are all happy and believe it is a project they are interested in investing in.

We are now waiting and are sure the President will deliver on his promise. It is just a matter of allocation and doing the necessary paperwork. We do the deposits and leave the rest to him,” stated Kimanthi

On her part, Hawa Shafi - the Starehe AHP Sales Manager, explained why the project suits the players’ needs.

“To have chosen Starehe, there is much more apart from the housing that we are offering. We are offering a lifestyle that fits into their daily routine.

We have a jogging track, football court, gym and swimming pool, which will help them to enhance their training while at home,” she remarked.
