Muchiri was named in the starting lineup for the second time in a row as Kenya took on Morocco on Sunday, 10 August, in a 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) Group A match.
The high-octane clash, which saw Harambee Stars reduced to 10 men in the first half, had Kenyan fans fill the stadium beyond capacity, pushing the team to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport after the match, the electric crowd left Muchiri, who plies his trade with military side Ulinzi Stars, to admire the two most supported Kenyan clubs.
“It was my first time to play under such a crowd. If that is the feeling Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards players always feel, they deserve the titles and everything that they have been doing,” stated Muchiri.
Muchiri was one of the top performers for the Kenyan team, causing constant headaches to the Moroccan backline with his speed and dribbling and was involved in Ryan Ogam’s 42nd-minute winner.
The stadium erupted every time he was on the ball, a feeling he is alien to, having featured for clubs that do not have such a vociferous backing.
“They kept cheering and motivating me whenever I had the ball because they believed in what I could do and even pushed me beyond,” he said.
Further, the Kibabii High School alumnus opened up on fighting for his place in the team and the impressive performance by the Benni McCarthy-coached side.
“I really had to work hard. The opportunity does not come so often, and so I had to make good use of my moments because it might as well be someone else.
The most important thing is the unity and fighting spirit within the team, and most importantly, the fans who played a really big part,” he remarked.
