Stars have been in camp for the last one week, and travelled with a 25-man squad on Saturday, 19 July to Arusha, where they will play three matches at the Karatu Stadium, before jetting back to the country.
Kenya was initially scheduled to face rivals Uganda on the opening day, only for CECAFA to reschedule the matches following Senegal’s logistical time constraints.
Harambee Stars’ test against Tanzania on Monday will be the nations’ first head-to-head match-up since January this year, when the former secured a 2-0 victory in the 2025 Mapinduzi Cup.
Two of the goal-scorers on that day - Ryan Ogam and Boniface Muchiri - are in McCarthy’s travelling squad, which only has one unattached player present.

Overall, Kenya holds a better head-to-head record in recent years, as they are unbeaten in the last 10 matches, with their last loss to the Taifa Stars side coming in a friendly on 14 November 2012.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, McCarthy said: “It is a good tournament to gauge our preparedness for CHAN. We are going to face formidable opponents, and that will clearly show us what is working and what needs to be fixed.”
