Shamuni had been unveiled by Sofapaka but was released weeks later
Harambee Sand Stars striker Answar Shamuni is hoping to make a move before the transfer window after failing to nail a place in the Sofapaka team.
Sofapaka unveiled the player last month and went on to field him in the second edition of the Elite Pre-season Cup.
However, their marriage was short-lived, as Shamuni was released under unclear circumstances despite being unveiled earlier on.
Other players who were unveiled and released later include former Kibera Black Stars captain Christian Lubulu, former Gor Mahia winger John Ndirangu, former Young Bulls’ Lucky Murabu, and goalkeeper Stephen Otieno.
The 20-year-old says the decision by Sofapaka to release him will not stop him from pursuing his dream of gracing the top flight in the future and even turning professional should the opportunity fall his way.
He called on the clubs plying their trade in the two top leagues in the country to come to his rescue.
“Things didn’t work out as planned at Sofapaka. I had a dream of taking the top flight by storm, but all did not go according to plan. I hope to secure deals elsewhere, preferably in the top or second tiers soon,” he said.
Shamuni was part of the Sand Stars team that inspired Kenya to a fourth-place finish during the Africa Beach Games held in Hammet, Tunisia, in June.
His performance in the Games convinced Sofapaka representatives who accompanied the team to Tunisia that he was ripe for league action.
Shamuni had been featuring for his boyhood club, Watamu Stars, that plies trade in the Kilifi Sub-County League since writing his form four examinations in 2021 at St. Anthony’s Boys High School, Kitale.
