This way, another 39-year-old's attempt to establish himself as a respectable manager failed, as he was relegated with Derby County, failed to qualify for the MLS play-offs with D.C. United, and left Birmingham in 20th place, although the Blues were sixth when Rooney took over the job less than three months before.

Plymouth were the fourth club the legendary forward led in his four-year-long managerial career, and now it's questionable whether another side would be willing to risk appointing him, as his achievements so far do not make for a strong recommendation.
