Hanif Wesonga opens up on reasons for KCB's strong start to season

KCB FC defender Hanif Wesonga admits that their impressive start to the season is due to a formidable group that is not only sturdy at the back but also ruthless up front.

The Bankers are thus far unbeaten, claiming two victories and one draw in their first three games of the 2024-25 FKF Premier League season.

Last Saturday, the Patrick Odhiambo-coached team thrashed Posta Rangers 3-0 at the Thika Municipal Stadium.

Prior to Saturday's triumph, the Bankers, as they are affectionately known, defeated Murang'a Seal by a similar margin.

Following last weekend's results, the 2024 Mozzart Bet Cup finalists lead the 18-team league standings with seven points.

Notably, they have the highest goal difference with six goals and the meanest defence, having not conceded since the 2024-25 season kicked off.

"Our impressive start to the season has been due to having a formidable squad, which has propelled everyone in the team to embrace stiff but healthy competition.

I think this has worked in our favour, as everyone wants to give their best when called upon," he noted.

The Harambee Stars defender went on to say that their good form is linked to being solid at the back yet dangerous up front.

"We have been a hard nut to crack at the back, and so have we been scoring at will upfront, which I believe has been one of the major cutting edges to our success," stated the player.

The left-footed centre-back disclosed that they are out to maintain consistency in order to stay at the top of the table.

"We intend to keep consistency in order to be at the summit of the table because we are out to compete for the title," he added.

KCB will host four-time league champions Ulinzi Stars on Saturday 28 September, for their fourth encounter of the season as they look to consolidate their log lead.
