If sentenced, the Morocco defender could get up to 15 years in jail

It was in February 2023 when it first happened and after three years of hearings, evidents and court dates, it was decided – Achraf Hakimi will be trailed for rape. The judges concluded that there are enough evidence for the trial and the PSG defender is facing up to 15 years in jail, if found guilty. The player, along with his lawyer claim that the alleged victim showed no proof at all, and that the trial was ordered even though only verbal accusations were made.

“A trial has been ordered on the basis of an accusation that rests solely on the word of a woman who obstructed all investigations, refused all medical examinations and DNA tests, refused to allow her mobile phone to be examined, and refused to give the name of a key witness“ Hakimi‘s lawyer Fanny Colin said.

Hakimi, who denied all accusations also posted on social platform X:

“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial. This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly“ he wrote.

The incident was reported on Sunday, February 26th 2023, but actually happened the day before, according to the then 23-year-old girl, who reported Hakimi to the police. She indicated that she did not wish to file a complaint, but "to make a statement of rape". According to her statement, she met Hakimi on Instagram on January 16th and on Saturday 25th, the player ordered an Uber car to drive her to his house in Boulogne. At his home, things get out of hand, according to the words of the young woman. The Moroccan international reportedly kissed her on the mouth, lifted her clothes and kissed her breasts despite her protests. She also claims that the sportsman committed digital penetration despite, again, his protests. The young victim would have finally managed to free himself from his attacker by pushing him away with his foot. Released, she would then have sent an SMS to a friend who came to pick her up.

And while the victim‘s lawyer was happy and said in a statement that her client "welcomes with relief the indictment order" and that it "is perfectly consistent with the elements of the case and the requests of the public prosecutor", Hakimi‘s lawyer was not happy.

"A woman whose two successive psychological evaluations revealed a lack of lucidity regarding the events she claims to be denouncing, and furthermore, the absence of any post-traumatic symptoms. All this while she attempted to conceal from the judicial authorities several messages exchanged with one of her friends planning to 'rob' (sic) Mr. Hakimi. It is with determination and resolve that we await this trial so that justice may be served" said Colin.
