Ogutu leaves Gusii sixteenth on the twenty team standings a point from the red zone

Gusii FC and head coach Phelix Ogutu have mutually agreed to part ways.

Mozzart Sport understands the main reason for this is due to poor working conditions and a string of underwhelming performances in the National Super League (NSL).

The decision was confirmed through a statement sent to Mozzart Sport on Friday evening after a comprehensive meeting between the gaffer and the club management.

Ogutu’s tenure at the Kisii-based club has seen the team take part in five second-tier matches, recording one win and four losses.

This run of form prompted the club's leadership to re-evaluate their technical bench, resulting in Ogutu's exit who joined the club a month ago replacing Kassim Otieno who had left the club for Division One side Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA).

On his side, the former Muhoroni Young gaffer noted poor working conditions and not having adequate time to train with his squad led to his exit.

I would like to thank Gusii FC for supporting me and giving me a chance to handle the team. It is official I have left the club after the short period we have been together,” stated the expert. “The main reason I am leaving the club is that in that short period I have been with the club I have endured tough working conditions.

It has been hard to get a specific starting lineup as a coach, there’s no single day I have trained with a full team since I took over, and most of the players prefer to hunt for casual jobs instead of coming to the training grounds. On match days I have to get them out of their homes just to honor a game and when it is tough, we have to dish a walkover,” lamented the soft-spoken coach.

He was also quick to point out the main cause of struggles for most second-tier clubs stating that “the main cause is lack of funds and planning from our teams, how do you register for a competition when you know very well you don’t have adequate resources to sustain your stay in the league? Let teams plan well before going into any competition,” asserted Ogutu.

Despite the unceremonious exit, the gaffer also extended an olive hand to his immediate former bosses and expressed the desire to see the club bring a sponsor on board.

I would like to challenge our clubs to give coaches and players contracts whenever they employ them and lastly, I wish Gusii all the best in the remaining games and hope that they secure a sponsor soon to help them achieve the set season’s objectives,” he concluded.

Ogutu leaves Gusii sixteenth on the 20-team log, a point from the red zone.
