Guehi’s first goal for the club marked City’s “training match” in FA Cup

Although fairly monotonous, it was a routine 2–0 victory for Pep Guardiola’s side over Salford
Pep Guardiola fielded a mixed lineup against the fourth-tier side, and in the end it did not backfire. Admittedly, the match was not particularly entertaining to watch, but the hosts still progressed to the next round of the FA Cup. Salford can also be satisfied with their performance, as they certainly managed to pose a threat in this game.
Manchester City took the lead early in a rather uneventful first half against Salford, with the breakthrough coming in the 6th minute. Ait-Nouri made a strong run down the left flank and delivered a sharp cross into the box, but Salford defender Dorrington accidentally turned the ball into his own net, handing City a 1–0 advantage.
City thought they had doubled their lead in the 22nd minute when Omar Marmoush fired in a stunning volley, only for the assistant referee to flag for offside. Replays suggested the decision was highly questionable, as the Egyptian forward appeared to be onside.

Man City's Omar Marmoush scored a fantastic strike to put his side 2-0 up vs Salford City...but he was flagged offside by the linesman 🤔
It's CLEAR to see Marmoush was well onside when the ball was played over the top in the build-up! 😯 pic.twitter.com/eYrx2aRgfO
The rest of the half lacked clear-cut chances, with Phil Foden’s ambitious volley from around 20 metres in the 39th minute flying over the bar. Salford had their first real opportunity shortly after, as Woodburn tested James Trafford with a close-range effort, but the City goalkeeper reacted well to push the ball away from under the crossbar.
In stoppage time, Salford came close again from a corner, with Cooper heading just wide of Trafford’s goal, but the visitors failed to find an equaliser before the break.

Manchester City started the second half on the front foot and created an early chance in the 50th minute, when young prospect McAidoo found space on the right and went for goal, but Salford’s goalkeeper reacted well to keep his effort out.
Salford then threatened just before the hour mark, as N’Mai broke through down the right and got almost into the six-yard box, but from a tight angle he fired straight at James Trafford. It was a rare but promising opportunity for the clear underdogs.
The game finally came to life in the 81st minute when City doubled their lead. After a well-worked routine following a free kick, Rayan Cherki’s initial shot was saved, but Marc Guehi reacted quickest to tap in the rebound and score his first goal for Pep Guardiola’s side.
City nearly added a third late on, with Antoine Semenyo striking the post from the left flank in the 85th minute, but the scoreline remained unchanged as the hosts comfortably saw out the game.
