Bayern midfielder will choose clubs in June as a free agent
The story of Leon Goretzka and FC Bayern Munich is coming to an end. This June it will all be over after eight years, and the moment is approaching when numerous European clubs will compete for the signature of the German midfielder. In fact, a serious line of interested teams has already formed. It was no secret even during the January that Goretzka and the Munich club would not continue together. Many clubs began sounding him out and assessing their chances, because they have a great opportunity to sign a quality player for free. As a free agent he will be able to choose his next destination, while clubs will likely have to offer a higher salary since they won’t have to pay a transfer fee to the Bavarians. Among the many interested teams, however, one name currently stands out.
Well-informed journalist Christian Falk, who closely follows events at Bayern, revealed that Arsenal FC is currently leading the race to sign Leon Goretzka. The moment it became clear that the German midfielder would definitely leave Bayern, the London club started sending signals. Back in January, Arsenal showed interest in bringing him to Emirates Stadium, although they are far from the only club that has approached him. Atletico Madrid is also willing to sign him, and he is considered an option for both Juventus FC and Inter Milan. Tottenham Hotspur are interested as well, though their chances alongside Europe’s heavyweights appear smaller.
Arsenal currently sits in pole position and has the best chances. Christian Falk clarified the situation for FC Bayern Insider, claiming that the Gunners are currently leading the race for the German international. The Gunners didn’t submit an offer in January, but they signaled they are aware that Goretzka is considering leaving Bayern. There were concrete talks with Atlético Madrid — their sporting director was in Munich. The player’s goal is to move to the Premier League and he would like to play for Arsenal. No one can guarantee that Arsenal will make a concrete offer this June, but in his heart he feels that would be the perfect next club, claims Falk.
“I’ve heard he likes the Premier League and that his playing style suits English football. However, he won’t focus on just one club this June. If Arsenal approaches him, he’ll gladly sit down and listen to the offer. Tottenham are also interested and could be an option, but Spurs aren’t as attractive as Arsenal right now, since Arsenal are performing very well in the UEFA Champions League. It would be great for Leon Goretzka to win the Champions League with another club. So we’ll wait and see whether Arsenal will make an offer” said Falk. For now there are no concrete moves, but they are expected soon. No club will sit with folded arms for long. Within a month or two, if Arsenal truly want Leon Goretzka, they will have to put a contract proposal on the table.
