
Gor Mahia unveil trio set to bolster club in upcoming Kagame Cup

Record FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia on Friday 6 July unveiled three new players to their squad, even as the club prepares to participate in the 2024 CECAFA Kagame Cup.
The trio, who showed off their ‘keepie-uppie’ skills before doing brief interviews with the club media include: Samuel Kapen, Chris Pius Akena and Gedeon Bendeka.

Kapen, a well sought after name in the last window having shone in his first season at Nairobi City Stars, kept up his numbers in his sophomore year to land a place at K’Ogalo.
"The motivation to come to Gor Mahia is because it is a big club in Kenya and in Africa,” Kapen, a winger, said. “I want to achieve my goals with Gor Mahia and I am here to help Gor Mahia win as many cups as possible.
“That is the goal I have set for myself. To the Gor Mahia fans, I will give them joy. I have already set that mentality.”
Bendeka and Akena meanwhile, are fairly new names in the country, and arrive after outstanding seasons in Rwanda’s Etincelles FC and Greek League 2 side Apollon Pontou FC respectively.
Bendeka, a Congolese striker who scored 13 goals in 22 games in the past campaign, said: “I have come to Gor Mahia for career progression and I am also here because the team is very ambitious.
“Being a focused player, I want to keep moving forward. I am happy to be in Kenya, happy with the quality around, and I am here to score goals.”
Akena, a Ugandan midfielder, was meanwhile elated to join a studded list of countrymen who played for Gor Mahia in the days gone by.
Among the players on his list included: Dan Sserunkuma, Godfrey Walusimbi and Khalid Aucho.
“It is a dream to be at Gor Mahia because it is a club I have been following for so long,” Akena, who said that he first fell in love with K’Ogalo in 2018 added. “The fans should expect something good from me and I look forward to being part of the fight to achieve the club’s objectives for the season and the time I will be here.”
The three are expected to make part of the Kagame Cup squad which leaves to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Sunday in readiness for their first Group B match against Zambia’s Red Arrows FC at the Azam Complex.
Other teams in Group B include: Djibouti’s Telkom FC and Al Hilal of Sudan.
