“Two former players, Erick ‘Cantona’ Ochieng and Dan Makori, are back to lead our Youth Team as Head Coach and Assistant Coach, respectively,” the club announced.
Ochieng, who joined Gor Mahia in 2013, enjoyed a successful three-season spell with K’Ogalo, where he established himself as a dependable midfield anchor.
During his time at the club, he lifted six major trophies, including three FKF Premier League titles, two Super Cups, and one Top 8 Cup.
After hanging up his boots, Ochieng, who also turned out for Red Berets, Bandari, AFC Leopards, City Stars, and Sofapaka, ventured into coaching.
He currently holds a CAF D coaching licence, with a growing reputation for nurturing young talent.
Makori, in the other hand, was part of the Gor Mahia squad during the 2011–12 season, a period in which the forward helped the team clinch both the Shield Cup and the Top 8 Cup.
Makori currently doubles up as the Kenya Footballers Welfare Association (KEFWA).
The duo’s appointment is seen as a strategic move by the club’s management to inject experience, identity, and continuity into the Gor Mahia Youth FC, which competes in the FKF Division One League, the third tier of Kenyan football.
The youth side has long been a key feeder to the senior team, having produced several top talents who have gone on to make their mark both locally and internationally.
Among its notable graduates are; Alpha Onyango, Alphonce Omija, Amos Nondi, and, most recently, Paul Ochuoga and Bryton Onyona, who earned promotion to the senior ranks.
