Abdoul Karim and Bertrand Traoré have some history together after playing together in the 2009 Under 17 World Cup.

Few players in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) can boast of a wealthy contact list but Gor Mahia midfielder Abdoul Karim is on the elite list as he is always in contact with Aston Villa forward Bertrand Traoré

The 27-year-old played alongside Traoré in the 2009 Under 17 World Cup with the former Chelsea man actually scoring a goal in the 4-1 thumping of Costa Rica in the tournament.

The two players trajectory took opposite paths with Karim joining ASFA Yennenga who are the record champions of the Burkinabé Premier League and spent three years at the club winning three league titles.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Karim revealed that he is still in contact with Traoré despite his busy schedule and hopes to emulate his career.

“We keep in touch sometimes on Instagram and WhatsApp but as you know Bertrand is at the highest level and it is not easy to reach him but sometimes we get in touch,”

“I really hope that I can get to his level, even if I’m not going to achieve his heights I will try my best and get to the top,” said Karim

After leaving Yennenga in 2016, Karim joined Ethiopian heavyweights St. George where he won back to back titles and helped the side qualify for the 2017 CAF Champions League for the first time ever in their history.

He ended his three-year stint with St.George in 2019 to join Armenian club, Gandzasar Kapan which became defunct in November 2020 due to the ongoing financial constraints relating to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Karim hopes to reignite his career at Gor Mahia and attract the offers of top clubs having already bagged his first goal for the club against Nairobi City Stars.

“My target at Gor Mahia is to give my best for the club and personally I want this to be a platform for me to climb up to big clubs,” added Karim
