
Gor Mahia bank millions from Shabana win as title charge gains momentum

The Shabana match is now the second-highest gate revenue K’Ogalo have recorded this season, only behind the Ksh7,011,500 collected during the Mashemeji Derby against arch-rivals AFC Leopards
Kenyan giants Gor Mahia smiled all the way to the bank after collecting millions in their 2-1 victory over Shabana in a match played on Saturday, 21 March, at Nyayo National Stadium.

According to a statement from the club’s treasurer, Gerphus Okuku, it was a harvest of both points and revenue.
“We collected Ksh2,441,000 from today’s match against Shabana at Nyayo Stadium. A great win, backed by a fantastic turnout. Mahia fans heeded the call and showed up in numbers; we truly thank you for your support,” read part of the statement.
Tickets for the match were retailing at Ksh300 for regular seats and Ksh1,000 for VIP, while VVIP tickets went for Ksh3,000.
The figure represents an increase of about Ksh1.5 million from the Ksh941,200 the club realized in their previous home match against Mathare United.

The clash against Shabana also marked only the second time this year that K’Ogalo has surpassed the million mark, the other being on 18 January when they collected Ksh1,001,300 in their match against Mara Sugar.

In their other home matches this year, the 21-time league champions collected Ksh974,600 against Sofapaka and Ksh876,100 in their clash against KCB, with the lowest turnout coming in their midweek fixture against Murang'a Seal on 14 January, where they raised Ksh385,300.

On the pitch, Gor Mahia secured the win through goals from South Sudanese international Jackson Dwang' and Alpha Onyango, on either side of a strike from Wycliffe Omondi for Shabana.
The victory saw Gor Mahia move to 56 points, opening a 10-point gap at the top of the table ahead of AFC Leopards’ clash against Tusker FC later on Sunday, 22 March, at Nyayo National Stadium.
