Gor Mahia, AFC Leopards, Shabana and all club transfers completed

Record champions Gor Mahia were among the most aggressive clubs in the market, securing five Harambee Stars players from the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN)

As the curtain continues to rise on the 2025/26 season, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has released an official update on the just-concluded transfer window, which shut on Friday, 5 September.

The two-month-long window was one of the busiest in recent memory, witnessing 233 player movements across all 18 clubs, with Sofapaka having the highest number with 21 inbounds.

Gor Mahia makes a bold statement

Record champions Gor Mahia were among the most aggressive clubs in the market, securing five Harambee Stars players from the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

These included Michael Kibwage (Tusker), the Bandari pair of Byrne Omondi and Siraj Mohammed, Lewis Bandi from bitter rivals AFC Leopards, and striker Felix Oluoch from Posta Rangers.

K’Ogalo further strengthened with Fidel Origa (Bandari), Muhammad Jagason (Al-Anwar, Libya), Ghanaian duo of George Amonoo (Karela United) and Ebenezer Adu-Kwaw (Bechem United), alongside Veron Ombima (Darajani Gogo).

Promising midfielder Reagan Omollo also earned promotion from the youth team.

AFC Leopards target long-awaited glory

Arch-rivals AFC Leopards, determined to end a 27-year league drought, bolstered their squad with key signings. Their headline arrival was Rami Lasso Coulibaly from Morocco’s Chabab Alam Tanger.

The Leopards also added Ugandan forward Samuel Ssenyonjo (Express FC), midfielders Tyson Otieno (Kenya Police) and James Kinyanjui (KCB), plus National Super League (NSL) top scorer Elias Mugane from Fortune Sacco.

Other additions included Brian Ojok (Soy United), Samuel Ambale Kusindi (Nashville FC), and youth prospects Deng Kang and Jamal Obeid.

Tusker welcome back Kapaito

12-time champions Tusker FC were equally busy, landing 11 new faces. The biggest capture was two-time league MVP Erick Kapaito, returning for a second stint from Tanzanian outfit Namungo FC.

The Brewers also roped in Brandon Obiero and Cliff Oruko (FC Talanta), Curtis Wekesa (Posta Rangers), Francis Oduor (KCB), Eugene Ikutwa (Bidco United), Yakeen Muteheli and Issa Lumumba (Ulinzi Stars), Dennis Oalo and Vincent Owino (Nairobi City Stars), and Ronny Otieno (Bandari).

Youth graduates Douglas Omanga and George Ochieng completed the intake.

Police bolster for domestic and continental battles

Defending champions Kenya Police FC, under Burundian tactician Etienne Ndayiragije, embarked on an ambitious recruitment drive as they prepare for their maiden CAF Champions League campaign and a tough title defence.

The Law Enforcers signed Harambee Stars pair Edward Omondi (Sofapaka) and Joash Onyango (Singida Black Stars, Tanzania). They also unveiled a strong foreign legion: Moise Mbombo (AF Anges Verts, DR Congo), Exause Misuri (OC Renaissance du Congo), Khadime Ndiaye (Rayon Sports, Rwanda), Samuel Ayandrinde (Shooting Stars, Nigeria), Tychick Mosengwo (Gorilla FC, Rwanda), Gedeon Muyadi (OC Renaissance du Congo), and Spaniard Mohammed Sarwari (Celta Academy).

Former Gor Mahia midfielder Tobias Otieno also returned to the league after five years abroad, signing from Tormenta FC (USA). Local signings included Simeon Nyamwaya (Bidco United), Stephen Okola (Mathare United), Eustars Chasara (Kibera Black Stars), and Albert Otieno (Police Youth).

Kakamega Homeboyz refresh squad

2023 Mozzart Bet Cup winners Kakamega Homeboyz, who finished third last season, also revamped their squad. Their marquee signing was forward Josphat Lopaga from Belarusian club Dynamo Brest.

They further added DR Congo striker Gedeon Bendeka, Rogers Ouma (Gor Mahia), KCB duo Joshua Nyatini and 2022 Golden Boot winner Derrick Otanga, and goalkeepers Edwin Mukolwe (Nairobi City Stars) and Brian Odhiambo (Kariobangi Sharks).

Other arrivals included Samuel Odaro (Mara Sugar), Eugene Ochieng (Kibera Black Stars), Silas Abungana (Gucha Stars), Rodgers Musonye (Green Commandoes), Abubakar Shing’ora (Mchanga FC), and Dennis Biketi (Vihiga United).

Shabana busy in the market

Shabana FC sealed 14 signings, among them goalkeepers Caleb Omondi (Gor Mahia) and David Obasanjo (Kisumu All Stars). They also recruited David Odoyo (Tusker), Kevin Musamali (Bidco United), Gilbert Abala and Wycliffe Omondi (Nairobi City Stars), Victor Omondi, Derrick Otieno, and Danson Kiprono (KCB), Byron Otieno (Kariobangi Sharks), Justus Akweywa (Naivas), Humphrey Obina (Murang’a Seal), Eric Otieno (FC Talanta), and Instine Wanjala (Transfoc FC).

The squad was further boosted by the Ugandan duo of Brian Olega (Jinja North) and Bronson Nsumbuga (St Mary’s Kitende).

KCB add experience in quest for maiden title

KCB FC refreshed their team with seasoned campaigner Humphrey Mieno, Jack Onganya (Sofapaka), Clyde Senaji (Nyasa Big Bullets, Malawi), and Apollo Otieno (Dodoma Jiji, Tanzania).

Other recruits included Rowland Makati (Nairobi City Stars), Amatton Samunya (Ulinzi Stars), Josephat Andafu, Tedja Wanumbi, Elvis Ochoro, Richard Omondi, Fadhili Masoud, Gideon Were, and Yafessi Mbiru.

Newcomers strengthen for top-flight debut

Newly promoted sides were not left behind. APS Bomet signed a raft of players, including Brian Bulleti, Hansel Ochieng, Francis Omondi, Sosthense Idha, Rodgers Kipkemboi, Sven Yidah, Aziz Okaka, Edwin Buliba, Enock Wanyama, Elvis Maliachi, Edward Masembe, Delton Oyo, Morgan Ambuka, and Duncan Mogasa.

Nairobi United, meanwhile, boosted their ranks with Prince Buregeya, Shafic Ssebyala, Shami Kibwana Mwinyi, Ovella Ochieng, Manzur Okwaro, Bernard Jairo, David Wafula, Chris Opondo, Brian Omondi, Kepha Wanjala, and Ashraf Mahmood.
