Harambee Starlets’ goalkeeping duo of Annedy Kundu and Vivian Shiyonzo say they are proud of their journey to the national team, but are stopping at nothing to make sure they get to next year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The two are part of four shot-stoppers, alongside Lilian Awuor and Mercy Akoth, who were last week called up by head coach Beldine Odemba in the provisional squad set to face off with The Gambia in the final round of WAFCON qualifiers set for 24 and 28 October, respectively.

Kenya is scheduled to host the first leg in Nairobi on Friday, 24 October, before travelling for the return fixture at Stade Lat Dior in Thiès, Senegal, with The Gambia forced to play away from home due to the absence of a CAF-approved venue.
Speaking after the team’s training session on Wednesday at Mpesa Foundation, the two goalkeepers shared their feelings about being with the squad.
“It is a big achievement,” the more experienced Kundu said. “To play for the Harambee Starlets is not easy - there are many who wish to get the chance to wear the Kenyan flag. For me I thank God that I am in this position, and would ask the rest to keep pushing for it.”
Having been a consistent name on Odemba’s squad - including at this year’s CECAFA Women’s Championships - the Kenya Police Bullets player was asked of her experience in between the posts for the national team.
“It is fun,” the 28-year-old said. “Most of the time I enjoy it. I think most people think it is hard for us but we actually enjoy what we do.”

Shiyonzo, on the other hand, is fully expecting Kenya to make it to the WAFCON for the first time since 2016.
“We are ready to fight,” the Kibera Girls Soccer keeper said. “The mood in the camp is good, and the players are united not to let Kenya down.”
For the 2025 FKF Women's Cup Golden Glove Winner, a place in the national team squad is a proud moment.
“I am so happy to be here,” Shiyonzo said. “I am here to represent my country, my family and myself. People love the way I play and make saves. It makes me proud.”
