Several former Die Mannschaft players, including the national team director Rudi Voller, expressed concern over the defender's misconducts during the latest El Classico, while some even demanded suspension from the German squad
The latest El Classico in the Copa del Rey final is already archived. Barcelona beat Real Madrid for the third time this season, claiming their second trophy in the ongoing campaign after winning Supercopa de Espana last January.
However, the dust kicked up in the derby clash still didn't settle - not because of the final outcome, but because of the disgraceful behaviour of some Los Blancos' players - Antonio Rudiger, in the first place. The centre-back reportedly threw objects at the referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea, completely losing his temper once it was clear the Catalans would lift the trophy.
The footage of Rudiger's shocking actions went viral worldwide, and his homeland was no exception. Consequently, several German legends harshly condemned the player's actions, while the German Football Association (DFB) even released a statement in which the national team director, Rudi Voller, commented on the matter.
"Toni is a top-notch player – but as a national player, he must also demonstrate class in his behavior. He rightly demands respect for himself, and he must also show this respect to others without exception. In this case, he and some of his teammates allowed themselves to be too caught up in the extremely heated atmosphere that had inexplicably often prevailed around the club before the game. That's unacceptable. Especially not as a German international," the former forward stated via Sport Bild.

"This isn't the first time Rudiger has exhibited behavioral problems. I believe the DFB should suspend him. I wouldn't invite him to the Nations League final tournament and would leave him out of the two matches," Hamann said in the Doppelpass on Sport1 via Sport Bild.
Lothar Matthäus: "Antonio Rüdiger's behavior was absolutely unacceptable, I've never seen that before. Rüdiger has made provocations many times before, but against Barça that was the last straw. I think his behavior must have consequences, even within the national team,… pic.twitter.com/xRb1hIcdcx

Finally, the man who captained Die Mannschaft and led them to the trophy in the 1990 FIFA World Cup, Lothar Matthaus - now a Sky Sport analyst - mainly focused on the ban that undoubtedly awaits Rudiger.
"He went crazy, he was no longer in control. He's a German international, he should be an example. Yesterday he forgot all that. If he walks away with a four-week suspension, he can be satisfied. I'm more thinking of a double-digit ban. I expect a massive ban. Besides, he was on probation," Matthaus stated on the Sky90 talk show via Diario As.
