The UEFA ‘B’ licensed coach is currently in Nairobi undertaking a refresher CAF ‘C’ course to enable him work in the country’s top tier again
Former Murang'a Seal coach Gabriel Njoroge says he misses the competitive nature of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL).
Njoroge, popularly known as 'Kingi,’ left the Muranga-based club almost one year ago under unclear circumstances.
He did not last long, as a string of poor results triggered his sacking, with Abdallah Juma being appointed his successor.
After leaving Seal, Njoroge moved to Tanzania, where he works in an academy.
“Football is addictive, more so at the competitive level. I miss being in the FKFPL, which I hope to come back soon. I had a good time at Murang'a Seal after the promotion, but unfortunately, it did not last,” he said.
During his short stay at the Murang'a-based club, he won six matches, shared points four times, and lost five of the 16 matches he was in charge.
The UEFA ‘B’ licensed coach is currently in Nairobi undertaking a refresher CAF ‘C’ course to enable him to work in the country’s top tier again.
“I have been forced to come back and do the CAF ‘C’ course since the requirements for coaching in Kenya have changed tremendously. My UEFA ‘B’ is not recognized as it is,” he revealed.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced that coaches handling FKFPL clubs must have at least a CAF ‘A’ license while those handling National Super League (NSL) should have a CAF ‘B’ badge.
Apart from handling Murang'a Seal, Njoroge is a veteran coach who has handled several Kenyan clubs.
Before Seal, he coached Mathare Youth for several years until 2010. A year later, he was appointed head coach at Mathare United, where he lasted four months.
He returned to Mathare Youth as a Technical Director and briefly handled Nairobi City Stars in 2015, a spell that lasted five months.
He also worked with the defunct Thika United in 2018. In 2006, he was appointed the national under-17 coach in preparation for the CECAFA under-17 tournament that was held in Burundi that year.
