Tanzanian football has tremendously grown in the past decade, ranking among the top five leagues in Africa
Former AFC Leopards and Harambee Stars goalkeeper trainer Lawrence Webo has pointed out that the massive investment made by sponsors in Tanzanian football makes the game more competitive than back here at home.

Webo, who left Singida Black Stars last month after the club announced the dissolution of its entire technical bench, has also observed that having a separate board run the Tanzanian league has also increased its competitiveness and professionalism.
Thirdly, Webo feels that allowing clubs to sign up to 12 foreign players who are allowed to play at a go is another aspect that makes the Tanzanian league have an edge over the Kenyan one.
“In terms of talent, Kenya has more talented players, but the difference comes in terms of management and league sponsorship.
In Tanzania, they take the league more seriously, which places emphasis on having well-maintained stadia. It is not unusual for the league board to close sub-standard facilities,” he pointed out.
Webo points out that most Tanzanian clubs are well supported by their sponsors, making it lucrative for players.
“Players earn salaries ranging from as high as $30,000 (Ksh3.8m) per month, and this makes it very attractive to play in Tanzania. It is no wonder the league is ranked among the top five in Africa.
“The decision to allow up to 12 foreign players to feature for a team also brings great competition and improves local standards,” he pointed out.
Webo is among four Kenyan coaches who have parted ways with Tanzanian clubs in the recent past. David Ouma was also at Singida Black Stars. The others are Robert Matano and Zedekiah Otieno.
According to Webo, the demands and pressure of coaching in Tanzania are very high.
Regarding his future, Webo said he is still weighing a number of options that have come on his desk, but insists he wants to rest for at least three months.
