Harambee Stars goalkeeper Brian Bwire is set to leave Polokwane City at the end of the season following a difficult and increasingly isolated spell during the final months of his stay in the South African Premiership.

According to South African publication KickOff, the 25-year-old’s situation changed in January after he turned down a contract extension offer from the club. Since that decision, Bwire has not featured in any competitive matchday squad, effectively falling out of favour.

He was last included on the bench against Siwelele on Valentine’s Day but has since gone on to miss 14 consecutive matches, with Lindokuhle Mathebula firmly established as Polokwane City’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Bwire’s only competitive football in 2026 has come at the international level, when he featured for Kenya in a friendly against Grenada in March.

It has also been reported that since mid-February, he has not been fully involved in normal team training sessions.

While he continued reporting for duty, he was often limited to warm-ups before being excluded from full group training. At one point, he trained under goalkeeper coach Dominic Ramokgopa before later being left to work individually.

The situation is understood to have developed after his decision to reject the club’s contract extension offer, effectively pushing him out of the active squad setup. Bwire joined Polokwane City on a two-year deal from Tusker FC in July 2024.

His representatives, who are said to have strong international networks, have already begun exploring potential opportunities ahead of his expected departure.

Despite the tough spell in South Africa, Bwire is unlikely to be short of options if he opts to return to the FKF Premier League.

With most top-flight clubs actively looking to strengthen their goalkeeping departments ahead of the new season, the shot-stopper is expected to attract strong interest.

Given his experience and profile, Bwire would likely walk straight into the starting XI of almost any Kenyan top-flight side, making him one of the most sought-after goalkeeping options should he return home.
