Paul Put has been named the new head coach for Congo

Former Harambee Stars head coach Paul Put has been appointed as the new head coach by Congo Football Federation.

Put will be in charge for two years, replacing Brazillian Valdo Filho who parted ways with the federation after his contract lapsed earlier in March this year.

The former Belgian national will have two important tasks at his new work station; ensuring that the country makes it to the 2022 Qatar World Cup as well as qualify for the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.

This will be the fifth team that the 65-year old tactician will be leading an African national team after having stints with Gambia, Burkina Faso, Kenya, and Guinea.

Put was in charge of Kenya's national team for a short stint before moving to China to manage Chinese club Xinjiang Tianshan Leopard. He was appointed in November 2017 and lasted only 4 months, resigning in February 2018.

He has his fair share of controversies, serving suspensions and bans in his career.

He did not last two months at Xinjiang Tianshan Leopardas he was appointed as the head coach for the Guinea national team in March 2018 before being dismissed in July the following year. The divorce with Guinea was messy as he received a lifetime ban by the Guinea Football Federation a month after being sacked.

Earlier, Put had been banned for three years by the Belgian FA for allegedly being involved in match fixing.

Since 2015, the Belgian has not served at any work station for more than a year, having served in six stations in as many years.
