Otieno’s return marks a significant homecoming, nearly a decade after his initial spell with Rangers, where he served between 2015 and 2017
Football Kenya Premier League side Posta Rangers have moved to steady their campaign with the reappointment of seasoned tactician Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno as the club’s new head coach.
In an official statement released via the club’s social media platforms, Rangers confirmed the return of the experienced gaffer, expressing confidence in his ability to guide the team through the decisive final stretch of the campaign.

"Welcoming Zedekiah Otieno (Zico) as our new head coach. He’s stepping in to guide the team through the crucial final matches of the season going forward.
Focused, determined and ready to finish strong,” read part of the statement.
Otieno’s appointment comes in the wake of a turbulent period for the Mailmen following the departure of former head coach Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo, who exited the club on 28 November 2025.
With just seven matches remaining, Rangers find themselves in a precarious position, hovering dangerously above the relegation zone with only a six-point cushion separating them from the red zone.
The situation underlines the urgency of Otieno’s assignment, as the club seeks to steer clear of the looming threat of relegation, having only recently managed to retain their top-flight status through the relegation-playoff route.
Since Omollo’s exit, the team had been under the stewardship of assistant coach Collins “Korea” Omondi, who now reverts to his role as first assistant coach.
He will work alongside second assistant Edwin Mwaura in a restructured technical bench aimed at restoring stability and competitive edge within the squad.
Otieno’s return marks a significant homecoming, nearly a decade after his initial spell with Rangers, where he served between 2015 and 2017.
His familiarity with the club’s culture and expectations is expected to provide a crucial boost as the team navigates the business end of the season.
Although details surrounding the length of his contract remain undisclosed, anticipation is already building ahead of his touchline return.
In a twist of fate, his first assignment will see Rangers face APS Bomet FC, the very side now housing his predecessor, adding an intriguing subplot to an already high-stakes encounter.
The fixture will also mark Otieno’s return to the domestic league after nearly nine months away.
The former Gor Mahia coach parted ways with the club at the end of the 2024/25 season before embarking on a brief stint with Tanzanian outfit Tanzania Prisons FC, where he left in February by mutual consent.
