Swedish third-tier side Karlstad Fotboll has ended association with former Gor Mahia defender Frank Odhiambo after a year with the club.
Odhiambo joined the Karlstad-based outfit in March, on a season long loan transfer, from Swedish top tier club Djugarden.
The 23-year-old’s departure was confirmed by Karlstad on Sunday, 28 December through their social media platforms.
“Thank you Frank! Frank Odhiambo is leaving Karlstad Football and we say a big thank you for your time at the club,” read part of the statement by Karlstad.
The club went ahead to elucidate Odhiambo’s key statistics during his stay with them.
“The center back came to us on loan from Djurgårdens IF for the last season and in total there were 23 matches for Frank, eleven of which from the start. He was noted for three goals and one assist during his time in black and blue.
Thank you again and we wish you good luck in your continued career,” added the club.
Odhiambo’s stay at Karlstad was his fourth loan move since he moved to Djugarden on a five-year deal from Kenyan giants Gor Mahia in 2022.
Despite his promising talent, Odhiambo is yet to feature in the Swedish top division.
Djugarden first loaned him to IFK Haninge and later to Vasulund IF for him to gain more experience.
Prior to last season, Odhiambo featured for third tier outfit AFC Eskilstuna, where he played alongside compatriot Henry Meja, who was on loan from AIK.
The Bongonaya academy graduate was the second Kenyan to play for Karlstad, following in the footsteps of former Tusker FC captain Eugene Asike, who signed for the club in April 2022.
Odhiambo, who had already represented Kenya at the U20 and U23 levels, will be keen to find a place in the Djugarden team and hopefully catch the eye of Harambee Stars head coach Benni McCarthy ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
