During that period, he kept fit by training with third-tier outfit Ruiru Hotstars, a club he supports as a patron, while also making appearances off the pitch, including featuring on Maisha Magic Channel productions.
His move to KCB adds pedigree and leadership to a squad still searching for consistency under coach Robert Matano, with Kahata’s vast experience expected to play a key role in stabilizing the team’s midfield.
A familiar figure to Kenyan football fans, Kahata’s career spans over a decade at the top level.
He rose through Thika United’s youth ranks before breaking into the senior team, where his creativity and composure quickly marked him out as one of the league’s brightest midfield talents.
During that spell, he also enjoyed a brief loan stint at South Africa’s University of Pretoria, gaining early exposure to football outside Kenya.
In 2014, Kahata took his first major step abroad, joining Albanian giants KF Tirana.
What began as a loan move soon became permanent, and he went on to make close to 30 league appearances across two spells in the Albanian top flight.
He returned home to join Gor Mahia, a move that would define the most successful chapter of his career.
At K’Ogalo, Kahata became a midfield mainstay, amassing over 100 appearances in domestic and continental competitions.
He won multiple FKF Premier League titles, lifted local cups, and was part of the squad that claimed the 2017 Super Cup( Regional), earning the historic opportunity to face English Premier League (EPL) side Everton.
In 2019, he crossed borders again, this time to Tanzanian powerhouse Simba SC, who had scouted him during the 2018 Super Cup held in Tanzania.
In Dar es Salaam, he continued his winning habit, featuring in CAF competitions and helping Simba secure the Tanzanian Premier League title alongside domestic cup honors.
His return to Kenya with the Kenya Police marked yet another milestone as he played a central role in the club’s remarkable rise, providing experience and calm as Police challenged established heavyweights and went on to win their maiden FKF Premier League title.
He also added the Mozzart Bet Cup to his honors list before eventually moving on.
