Godfrey Okeya, who has also previously played for Shabana, is now in the books of Muhoroni Youth
Muhoroni Youth FC seem to have begun the 2023/24 FKF Premier League season on a fair note, well, they haven’t lost a match after match day two and look solid both at home and away. This pales in comparison to their disastrous last season performance.
After holding off a determined Nairobi City Stars to a barren draw on the opening day, Muho shared the spoils against Nzoia who had travelled to the famed Got Alila on the back of a huge home victory against Ulinzi Stars.
Godfrey Okeya, who is yet to get the nod from the bench, is a man on a mission having made an incredible comeback to football after a long term injury.
‘’I’ve been out for a long time and it feels good to be back. At some point I didn’t think I would make it but here I am, ready to take this second chance seriously,’’ says the midfielder who has previously turned out for Shabana.
He’s patient on the bench and admits that their squad generally, is a good one and will pull a lot of surprises. Muho, who retained their premier league status after a laborious play-off contest against Migori Youth, were forced to bring in a handful of seasoned names to bolster the side before the league began. Okeya is one of them.
‘’The whole team is a blend of experience and youth. There are youngsters who are playing in the top flight for the first time as well as experienced ones,’’ continues the lad.
Collins Neto, a household name at Got Alila, scored the team’s first goal of the campaign- a response from the spot to Nzoia Sugar who had threatened to walk away with three points. Okeya admits such experience within the team is key.
‘’We are going to need everything we can to do well this season, and players like Neto in their experience always lift the team at a time of crisis,’’ concludes the former AFC Leopards Youth Captain.
Muhoroni Youth, currently occupying tenth position in the 18-team FKF Premier League table standings will travel to a wounded AFC Leopards on 16th when the league resumes after the international break. Leopards took a 1-0 humbling in their last outing against KCB FC.
