The Brazilian midfielder is coming from Juventus
It will be well remembered at Juventus how they blew serious money on Douglas Luiz. They paid Aston Villa 51.5 million euros for him last June, covered his salary for a year, and now were just hoping to recoup at least half of that money. The graduate of Vasco’s academy didn’t shine in Italy, where he arrived together with his then-girlfriend, Alisha Lehmann, the well-known Swiss footballer. Both signed for Juventus at the same time — perhaps an attempted marketing trick — but whatever the plan was, it didn’t work. It was clear by this year that the Brazilian midfielder would leave the Turin giant, and he only wanted one club. Nottingham Forest decided to seize the opportunity and will pay Juventus 30 million euros in compensation, reports Brazil’s Globo. Only a few small details remain to be resolved before Douglas Luiz travels to England for medicals, after which he will soon be unveiled as a new player of the ‘Tricky Trees’.

The former Manchester City, Girona, and Aston Villa player featured for 45 minutes at this year’s Club World Cup — his farewell in the black-and-white shirt. Last season, he made 27 appearances for Juventus across all competitions, totaling 877 minutes on the pitch. No goals, no assists. Essentially, nothing. He leaves Juventus as an overpriced mistake and returns to the Premier League, where he had previously been a reliable defensive and central midfielder.
With Douglas Luiz’s arrival, Nuno Espírito Santo has now spent 201.9 million euros in the current transfer window. The other signings were Omari Hutchinson (43.4m), Denis Ndoye (42m), Arnaud Kalimuendo (30m), James McAtee (25.5m), Igor Jesus (19m), and Jair Cunha (€12m). Through player sales, Forest earned 124.37 million euros. Elanga went to Newcastle for 42m, Danilo to Botafogo for 28m, and Ramon Sosa to Palmeiras for 12m, all worth noting. When everything is balanced out, they are “in the red” by 77.53 million euros.
