Record league champions Gor Mahia will host in-form Murang’a Seal at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, while defending champions Kenya Police FC welcome Mara Sugar FC at the Police Sacco Grounds.
Gor Mahia vs Murang’a Seal (4 PM)
Gor Mahia have a golden opportunity to ascend to the summit of the FKF Premier League table on Wednesday afternoon when they take on Murang’a Seal.
K’Ogalo sit second on the log with 27 points and a +10 goal difference, the same as leaders AFC Leopards, who are three points ahead. Victory would see Gor draw level on points with Ingwe and move top on goal difference.
However, standing in their way is a youthful but highly resilient Murang’a Seal side. Coached by Osborne Monday, Seal are currently on a 10-match unbeaten league run, the longest streak in the league this season.
The Murang’a-based side have earned plaudits for their quick, attractive, attacking football and will be keen to maintain their impressive form.
Seal have claimed notable victories in recent weeks, dispatching Mathare United, Mara Sugar, and Kenya Police FC, all in their last three outings. Gor Mahia, on the other hand, have been inconsistent, managing just two wins in their last six league matches, a run that will concern head coach and fans alike.
The recent head-to-head record suggests a tight contest. Both league meetings last season ended in draws, while Gor Mahia edged Seal on penalties in the Mozzart Bet Cup semifinals after a two-all draw in regular time.
In their last outing, Gor were held to a goalless draw away to Shabana FC at Gusii Stadium. Murang’a Seal, meanwhile, recorded a convincing 2-0 win over Mathare United at the Kasarani Annex, despite coach Monday admitting his side did not fully execute his tactical instructions.
Kenya Police FC vs Mara Sugar FC (2 PM)
At the Police Sacco Grounds, defending champions Kenya Police FC will be desperate to return to winning ways when they host Mara Sugar FC.
The Law Enforcers are winless in their last four league matches, recording three draws and one defeat, while Mara Sugar are also searching for form, having gone three games without a win following two draws and a loss.
Pressure has been mounting at Kenya Police, a situation that recently led to the release of all five foreign players signed before the start of the season.
In response, the club has reinforced its squad with the arrival of Congolese winger Ernest Briyock Malonga, Burkina Faso striker Yves Koutiama, a CHAN international last year, Congolese defender Jacques Bowamba, and Zanzibari midfielder Awesu Ally Awesu from Simba SC of Tanzania, as they look to revive their title defence.
Mara Sugar have also strengthened, bringing in defenders Tony Oloo and Nassor Shikokoti, goalkeeper Kaunda Junior from Hillside FC, and winger Aineah Ndete from Samitsi FC.
An interesting statistic ahead of the match is that all four of Mara Sugar’s defeats this season have come at home at Awendo Green Stadium. The Millers remain unbeaten away from home.
Last season, Kenya Police completed a league double over Mara Sugar, winning both home and away. However, Mara had the last laugh in the Mozzart Bet Cup, eliminating Police in the quarterfinals.
