With three matches to play till the season comes to an end, eyes are on both the title race, and the battle against relegation.

Kenyan giants AFC Leopards have an opportunity to close the gap to league leaders Gor Mahia to just one point, when they face Kakamega Homeboyz in today's biggest highlight.

Meanwhile, reigning Mozzart Bet Cup champions Nairobi United will clash with Posta Rangers, while Mara Sugar play host to Mathare United.

Ahead of today's matches, Gor Mahia are still at the summit of the league table with 65 points, four points more than their arch-rivals AFC Leopards, with Kenya Police in third with a distant 52.

At the other end of the table, already-relegated Sofapaka are rooted at the bottom of the log with 18 points, and are joined in the red zone by Bidco United and Ulinzi Stars with 24 and 32 points respectively.

AFC Leopards vs Kakamega Homeboyz

AFC Leopards and Kakamega Homeboyz will renew their ‘Ingo Derby’ rivalry at the Mumias Sports Complex from 1500 hrs.

Ingwe head into the match looking to go just one point off Gor Mahia and pile pressure on the league leaders, who will take to the pitch later on Sunday, 17 May.

Leopards are approaching the match on the backdrop of back to back wins over Mara Sugar and Ulinzi Stars, and therefore are full of confidence, with the team still insisting their eyes are still set on the league title.

Homeboyz, on the other hand, are looking to collect the remaining pieces of what has been a disappointing season, according to the standards of the Mozzart Bet-sponsored outfit.

The Kakamega-based side are currently sixth on the log with 47 points, and on a poor run of form of six matches without a win.

However, the 2019 Mozzart Bet Cup champions will draw inspiration from their impressive record against the 1998 league champions, that has seen them win two of their last five meetings, including the 1-0 victory in the reverse fixture.

Leopards, meanwhile, have only tasted victories just twice in their last 10 meetings.

Nairobi United vs Posta Rangers

League newbies Nairobi United will come face to face with Posta Rangers at the Police Sacco Stadium from 1400 hrs.

Having already been eliminated from the Mozzart Bet Cup, Naibois are currently eyeing third position in the league to soothe their agony of enduring a trophyless season, and missing a place in continental football.

They are currently fourth on the log with 48 points, four shy of Police, who will be inactive in the league this weekend owing to their participation in the Mozzart Bet Cup semi finals.

Speaking ahead of the match, Naibois assistant coach Boniface Omondi expressed his confidence in the team’s ability to bounce back from their 2-0 loss to Kariobangi Sharks in their last match.

“We have had a good training week after the loss to Sharks, and the players responded well even as we sought to correct the mistakes that we made in the match,” said Omondi.

“Playing against a team that is fighting relegation is not easy, and so we ought to be wary of that, because the match will be like a final to them. Nevertheless, we believe we have prepared well to secure maximum points, and finish in the best possible position in the league,” he added.

Mara Sugar vs Mathare United

At the Awendo Green Stadium, high flying Mara Sugar will lock horns with Mathare United from 1400 hrs.

Mara have won four of their last five matches, including a 1-0 win over Shabana in their last match, which saw them bounce back from a controversial 2-1 loss to AFC Leopards.

The Sugar Millers are currently eighth on the log with 43 points, and will be in search of a win that would improve their place on the log at the expense of Mathare United, who are in desperate need for maximum points in order to avoid relegation.

The Slum Boys are currently 14th on the league table with 35 points, just three above Ulinzi, and have been on a poor run of two wins in their last 11 matches, a run that cost coach John Kamau his job earlier this week.
