FKF president Hussein Mohammed has announced that the National Super League (NSL) will have some of its matches broadcast live this season, in a bid to give Kenya’s second tier the much-needed publicity.
The NSL was last aired live five years ago when the now-defunct Bamba Sports acquired the rights. However, the deal was terminated after becoming financially unsustainable. Since then, the best alternative has been some clubs streaming their games on social media to attract publicity and potential financial partners.
Mohammed has now assured that plans are underway to change that, confirming that selected matches will be televised. However, he did not disclose when the broadcasts will begin or which station will take up the rights.
“NSL also deserves to be covered on radio and live television. Within this season, I assure you, we will have a few of your games live on TV. This will help us give you more publicity and exposure, and continue building your clubs at that level,” he said.
The FKF president was speaking during the launch of sponsorship deals between Mozzart Bet and three National Super League clubs — 3K FC, Migori Youth FC, and Kisumu All Stars — on Tuesday. He urged clubs to embrace proper governance to attract more partners, stressing the importance of accountability and integrity.
“I want to give some assurance: this is only the beginning, and we are going to do more. Governance is very important at the club level. Make sure that whatever you do, you are accountable when resources come in, that you are transparent in how you manage them, and that you uphold integrity in how we run the game,” he added.
Under the deal, the three clubs will each receive Ksh 5 million for the season to cater for logistical needs, plus an additional Ksh 1 million for merchandising.
