Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has confirmed that officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have completed a two-day inspection tour of five Kenyan stadiums, as preparations intensify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The tournament, which Kenya will co-host alongside Uganda and Tanzania, has recently been the subject of speculation over a possible postponement.
However, CAF President Patrice Motsepe has reaffirmed that the competition remains on schedule, signaling confidence in the progress being made across the three host nations.
With timelines tightening, the joint hosts are under pressure to fast-track infrastructure upgrades, as CAF continues its routine inspection programme to assess readiness and offer technical guidance ahead of the continental showpiece.
In a post on his X account, Mohammed revealed that the CAF delegation, led by security head Dr. Christian Emeruwa and infrastructure chief Ms Stephanie Totokra, wrapped up their assessment of Talanta Sports City, Nyayo National Stadium, Ulinzi Sports Complex, Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani and the Police Sacco Stadium.
The two-day exercise, conducted in conjunction with the FKF and Local Organising Committee officials, focused on evaluating safety protocols, security systems and overall facility preparedness.
Mohammed noted that the inspection reflects both FKF’s and the government’s commitment to upgrading and modernising football infrastructure, not only to meet CAF standards for AFCON 2027 but also to create a sustainable legacy for Kenyan football beyond the tournament.
“CAF officials, led by Dr. Christian Emeruwa, head of security and Ms. Stephanie Totokra, in charge of infrastructure, have concluded a two-day inspection at Talanta Sports City, Nyayo Stadium, Ulinzi Complex, Kasarani Stadium and Police Sacco Stadium together with FKF and LOC representatives, prioritising safety, security and infrastructure readiness for AFCON 2027.
The inspections demonstrate FKF and the government's commitment to strengthening football infrastructure, positioning Kenya for success during AFCON 2027 and beyond,” wrote the FKF boss.
Meanwhile, the flagship Talanta Sports City, which President William Ruto recently announced will be renamed the Raila Odinga International Stadium, is reported to be over 85 percent complete and entering its final phase of interior installations.
At the same time, Kasarani Stadium has been officially closed to begin intensive Phase Two upgrades, including a complete overhaul of the playing surface to meet international standards.
Nyayo National Stadium is also set for temporary closure immediately after the World Rugby Sevens Division Two tournament this weekend to allow for the installation of a new spectator canopy and a modern media centre.
