Ahead of today’s fixtures, Kakamega Homeboyz sit at the top of the league table with 14 points, one ahead of Gor Mahia and two clear of reigning Mozzart Bet Cup champions Nairobi United.
At the bottom of the table are league newcomers APS Bomet with three points, while Kariobangi Sharks and Ulinzi Stars occupy the other relegation spots with six points each.
Gor Mahia vs Kenya Police FC
In one of the biggest fixtures of the FKF Premier League, Gor Mahia face Kenya Police FC in what has been dubbed the “Serikali Derby” at the Nyayo National Stadium from 4:00 p.m.
The match carries extra significance as both teams are strong contenders for the title. Gor Mahia lost the championship to Police last season and are eager to reclaim it, while Police are determined to defend their crown and secure a return to continental football.
K’Ogalo are currently second on the table with 14 points, while Police sit ninth with eight points but have played two fewer games than the record champions.
All signs point to a high-octane encounter that will be closely followed by Kenyan football stakeholders.
Last season, Police collected four points from Gor Mahia, with K’Ogalo’s last win in this fixture dating back to April 22, 2023.
This season, both teams have enjoyed a strong start. Kenya Police FC have played four matches, winning two and drawing two, making them the only unbeaten side in the league so far. Gor Mahia, meanwhile, have featured in six games, winning four, drawing one, and losing one.
Ulinzi Stars vs Shabana FC
Military side Ulinzi Stars host a struggling Shabana FC at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, Lang’ata, from 2:00 p.m.
The clash brings together two out-of-form teams. After starting the season strongly with two wins, Shabana are now on a five-match winless streak, including three losses.
The poor run, compounded by the absence of key man Brian Michira, has piled pressure on coach Peter Okidi, with a section of fans calling for his dismissal.
Ulinzi, on the other hand, have been misfiring and are without a win in six games since their season opener. They, however, take confidence from their hard-fought draw against Gor Mahia last weekend and will aim to give coach Stephen Ocholla his first win since taking over from Dunstan Nyaudo.
Ulinzi will also draw encouragement from their record against The Glamour Boys, having not lost to them since Shabana’s promotion back to the league in 2023.
Kakamega Homeboyz vs Murang’a Seal
At the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega, Mozzart Bet-sponsored Kakamega Homeboyz host Murang’a Seal in a 2:00 p.m. kickoff.
Homeboyz’s impressive start to the season—four wins in seven matches and only one defeat—has propelled them to the summit as they chase their maiden league title.
The Kakamega side rescued a late draw against Tusker in their last outing and will be eager to return to winning ways in their second successive home match.
The 2023 Mozzart Bet Cup champions have been boosted by the return of captain Moses Mudavadi and forward Salim Murunga from injury.
Murang’a Seal, meanwhile, will be buoyed by their recent win over KCB, which earned coach Osborne Monday more time at the helm, though he remains under pressure to turn the club’s fortunes around.
Bandari FC vs KCB FC
In Mombasa, Bandari FC take on KCB FC at the KPA Sports Club, Mbaraki, from 3:00 p.m.
Both sides are in poor form. Bandari are winless in their last four matches, with coach Mohammed Borji still chasing his first victory, while KCB have lost four of their six matches, including their last three.
However, The Bankers will take heart from their strong record against The Dockers, having gone unbeaten in their last 10 meetings. Bandari’s last win in this fixture came on March 1, 2020.
APS Bomet vs Mathare United
Bottom-placed APS Bomet will face Mathare United at the Kericho Green Stadium from 3:00 p.m.
The league newcomers have endured a rough start to life in the top flight, losing four of their first six games, making them early relegation candidates.
They managed a draw against Bidco in their previous outing and will now look to capitalize on home advantage to secure their second win of the season.
Mathare United, on the other hand, have lost their last two matches. This fixture presents them with a good opportunity to bounce back and climb from their current 13th position.
