Ramsdale came from Southampton on a season-long loan
Eddie Howe is not satisfied with the goalkeepers currently at his disposal. He has Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka, and Odysseas Vlachodimos—Pope and Dubravka are both considered veterans, and the Greek goalkeeper was never seriously in his plans. With his top transfer target, James Trafford, ending up at Manchester City, Newcastle turned their attention to Aaron Ramsdale (27) from Southampton—and completed the transfer rather quickly. The occasional England international has arrived at St. James’ Park on a one-year loan, with the Magpies having the option to buy his contract next summer. The exact terms of the potential purchase have not yet been revealed, but it’s known that the Championship-bound Southampton will receive around five million euros for the loan deal. Newcastle has also agreed to cover Ramsdale’s entire salary.

To date, over 75 million has been spent on Ramsdale. Sheffield United paid 20.5 million, Arsenal paid 28 million, and Southampton paid 21.4 million. That total could soon surpass 100 million if Newcastle decides to make the move permanent. Whether they do so will depend on how the 27-year-old goalkeeper performs.
"It's great to be here. I've always loved coming here and I've seen how passionate and loud the fans can be. I've always loved playing here at St. James' Park - I've not always had the greatest of results, but when the fans get behind you it's some place. Working with the manager and his coaching staff again were a big draw for me. They've already had a great influence on my career and the gaffer turned me from a man into a professional footballer at Bournemouth. He really showed me the ropes so the manager and his coaching staff were a huge selling point for me to come here" said Ramsdale upon his arrival.
