Final stretch in the Premier League race for Champions League

Reading Time: 3min | Sat. 15.05.21. | 12:57

After defeating Manchester United, Liverpool feel alive again. They heightened their chances of reaching Champions League next season which is not good news for Chelsea and the rest.

Stamford Bridge team made it difficult for themselves by losing to Arsenal while the Red Devils did not manage to push their arch-rivals away from best European football. Let's see what the Champions League race will bring - we might watch some debutants in the competition next season and we might face some regular names missing out.

Leicester City tasted Champions League football after winning that incredible Premier League title in season 2015/16. The Foxes are now hungry for another participation. They hold the 3rd place on the table, they have won 66 points so far and are in the pole-position to join Manchester teams who have already booked their ticket for the elite tournament.

However, Leicester's final two fixtures are the most difficult out of all the contenders for the last two Champions League spots - Chelsea on the 18th and Tottenham on the final day of the season (May 23rd). They did a huge job by beating Man United and they pretty much hold their fate in their own hands.

FA Cup final, Champions League final, Premier League top 4 fight - a lot of pressure is on Chelsea whoa are currently 4th and hold 64 points. They faced Man City recently and will meet them again in the Champions League final at the Dragao Stadium in Portugal.

A similar scenario is with the Foxes also - Chelsea are facing Leicester City today in the FA Cup final at Wembley and will meet them again on the 18th. Their final Premier League match of the season will be against sturdy Aston Villa on the 23rd.

If the London Blues fail in the Champions League final, they will need all six points out of two remaining Premier League matches to secure their place in Europe's crème-de-la-crème next season.

Jurgen Klopp and his squad are looking much better after winning all three points against Man Utd. The Reds now hold 60 points and are fifth - within reach of qualifying for Champions League.

Their last three fixtures of the season are 'points for grabs', if they play them right and not allow any surprises (which they did many times this season) - WBA on May 16th, Burnley on the 19th and Crystal Palace on the final day.

Potential Champions League first-timers West Ham United are the most pleasant surprise of the season and every neutral football fan would love for them to compete with the European best. As they sit 6th with 58 points, chances are still there.

Hammers play against Brighton today, WBA on the 19th and Southampton on the closing day. If they show their top performances and other competitors make a mistake or two, bubbles will be blown (reference to the team's anthem) as a part of a Champions League event.

As a turbulent season comes to an end, Tottenham see themselves 7th and as things stand, they will play in the new Conference League during the upcoming campaign. In their path of playing in a better competition stand the Wolves (16th of May), Aston VIlla on the 19th and Leicester on the 23rd.

Spurs need a perfect finish from themselves combined with a dramatic Chelsea collapse if they’re to have any chance of gatecrashing the top four party.

Everton hold mathematical chances while Arsenal have none. The Toffies face new English champions Man City on the 23rd and they need nothing short of a miracle for Ancelotti & Co to qualify for the Champions League. More probably, Liverpool Blues will fight for another Europa League participation.
