The fixture, set for Sunday, 26 April at Nyayo National Stadium, promises yet another chapter in one of Kenyan football’s most storied rivalries.

With both sides chasing maximum points and the pride that comes with derby supremacy, anticipation is already building among fans.

Omanyala’s backing comes just hours after he electrified the same venue, storming to victory in the men’s 100m at the Kip Keino Classic.

The Commonwealth Games champion clocked 9.96 seconds to reclaim the title in front of a roaring home crowd, setting the tone for what he hopes will be a successful sporting weekend for his preferred side.

Addressing Ingwe, Omanyala delivered a passionate message urging them to rise to the occasion.

“Dear AFC Leopards, don’t let me down this time. I’ve already set the tone for the weekend with a win, so this has to be a winning streak, no exceptions,” he said.

“I’m fully behind you as you step onto that pitch, hoping you match the energy and deliver when it matters most.

I’m really rooting for you guys, and I just hope everything falls into place in your favour. Let this be one of those performances that reminds everyone what this team is about,” he continued.

The sprint star is optimistic that Leopards can get the better of their bitter rivals, a feat they have managed sparingly in recent years, and challenge for bragging rights once again.

However, Omanyala will not be in the stands to witness the action live. The Kenyan speedster is scheduled to compete at the Botswana Grand Prix on the same day, continuing his early-season campaign on the international circuit.

His absence notwithstanding, the derby is still expected to draw a massive turnout, with the Mashemeji clash renowned for pulling fans from across the country.

The electrifying atmosphere, deep-rooted rivalry, and unpredictability of the fixture make it one of the standout events on the Kenyan football calendar.

Omanyala is not alone in backing Ingwe. Former AFC Leopards head coach Tom Juma has also called on the team and its supporters to rise to the occasion.

“AFC Leopards, I pray for a victory on Sunday. We are behind you. Fans, let’s turn up and cheer our players to glory,” he urged.
