Veteran midfielder comes to the rescue of Talanta, Police stage a late comeback to share spoils

FC Talanta have scaled to the summit of the National Super League following their slim 1-0 win over Mwatate United at the Ruaraka grounds.

Prior to the game, Talanta were trailing Kenya Police by two points following the latter's three all draw against APS Bomet, they sit at the top thanks to their healthier goal difference.

The experienced Maurice Odipo came to the rescue of Talanta as his second half goal was enough to punish the visiting league newcomers.

In other matches played, debutants Kisumu Hot Stars have redeemed themselves from a midweek 4-1 loss to Silibwet Leons after putting off Nairobi Stima 2-0 at the Moi Stadium, Kisumu.

Hot Stars suffered the blistering loss to Silibwet at the Bomet grounds to dent their hopes of keeping their status in the league but made good use of home advantage to condemn the struggling powermen to yet another identical loss.

Stima who were strong promotion candidates before losing their shirt sponsor last year had lost by a similar score line to the third placed Vihiga Bullets in their last match.

Hot Stars got their goals in either halves through Walter Omondi and Ronald Ochieng.

At Camp Toyoyo, leaders Kenya Police produced arguably the best comeback of the season after rallying from three goals down to force a 3-3 draw against APS Bomet in the police derby.

Police who also had to come from behind against Coast Stima in their last outing to the coast had James Nthiga to thank for finding the back of the net in the dying minutes of the game to salvage a point.

The law enforcers who have now dropped to second following FC Talanta's win had the extras through Eliakim Nyaga and David Oluoch.

Silibwet Leons held complicated Kisumu All Stars hopes of returning to the top flight after frustrating them to a barren draw in the second match staged at the Kisumu Stadium.
