European clubs enter race for Nairobi City Stars winger Samuel Kapen

Five local clubs have expressed interest in the winger who will become a free agent at the end of the month
The race for Samuel Kapen’s signature has taken an interesting turn after unnamed clubs from Belgium and Norway contacted the player.
The Nairobi City Stars winger has attracted interest from five local clubs, with Kenya Police and Gor Mahia leading the chase for his services.
Bandari, AFC Leopards, and Tusker are the other local clubs eyeing the player, who will become a free agent at the end of the month.
Kapen, who is managed by Christopher Ochieng, one of the few licensed agents in Kenya, revealed that there were interests from Belgium and Norway, but a deal was yet to be struck.
In April 2023, Ochieng was among the four out of the five Kenyan football agents who sat and passed the agency exams and were consequently certified.
“More clubs have reached out through my agent. There is interest from Belgium and Norway, but nothing has been agreed upon. I will keenly look at the offers when the season concludes,” Kapen told Mozzart Sport.
Despite the exit of coach Johnathan McKinstry and the offers from assumedly deep-pocketed European clubs, Gor and Police haven’t given up on the former Posta Rangers winger.

McKinstry is understood to have been a big fan of Kapen’s style of play when he first tried to sign him last year.
His exit, after landing a coaching job with the Gambian national team, would probably end the club’s interest in the player, but that is not the case.
“Talks between my representative and the two clubs are still ongoing. Gor are still pushing hard despite announcing the departure of McKinstry,” he added.
Meanwhile, Kapen confirmed that he will keep his word and serve City Stars until the last fixture of the season.
“I am ready to feature for the club to the last game, even if I will be out of contract. My relationship with the club has been great, and I would like to keep the end of my bargain,” added the former Kibera Black Star.
