The defender left Tusker at the tail end of April.

Former Tusker FC skipper Eugene Asike believes playing in Africa’s premier club competition earned him a platform that eventually presented him with a move to Swedish outfit Karlstad.

After winning the league last season, Tusker FC represented Kenya in the CAF Champions League where they were eliminated by Egyptian giants Zamalek SC and dropped to the CAF Confederation Cup which ended with defeat to CS Sfaxien.

Asike revealed that playing in the CAF club competitions enabled him to get scouted and attended a number of trials before finally making the move to Karlstad.

“Being here (Tusker) has given me the opportunity to play and improve. Playing in the Champions League and Confederation Cup have also made me better and I believe that is where I was spotted.

I have been on trials here and there but I believe this is the best time for me to accept a new challenge, go there and do my best,” Asike was quoted in the latest edition of Tusker’s monthly magazine.

Asike has already made six appearances for his Karlstad side who ply their trade in the Swedish third tier as they look to earn promotion, sit just two points off the promotion places.

The former Sofapaka defender also opened up in his six years at the Ruaraka-based club and revealed that the double won in 2016 was his best at the club.

“I have had a good time at Tusker FC over the last six years. There have been ups and downs but looking back, the good memories overwhelm the bad memories. I have had a good time at the club and developed as a player. Being given the captaincy also gave me more responsibilities and I want to say thank you to the entire Tusker family.

Looking back, 2016 was a good year because we won the double, but for me last season was the best for me. Leading the team to the title as a captain and also being named as the defender of the year was the highlight of my time here at Tusker,” added Asike.
